From 1986 through 1989 Larry served as the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, appointed by President Ronald Reagan. His prior experience at the IRS included serving as Deputy Chief Counsel (1972), Acting Chief Counsel (1973), and as Assistant Commissioner (1973-1974). The recipient of many notable honors, in 2014 he received the American Bar Association Section of Taxation Distinguished Service Award. He has been a Director of Tax Analysts since September 2011. He graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1960 and from The University of Texas School of Law with an LL.B. degree in 1963.
